What's the best practice for evaluating and optimizing the performance of existing buildings? Retro-Commissioning (RCx) also known as Existing Building Commissioning, is the process of applying Commissioning (Cx) activities to existing buildings with the intent to diagnose issues, implement corrective measures, and fine-tune systems for optimal performance. EBCx/RCx enhances the performance of an existing building's mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and control systems. These buildings have either never gone through the Cx process or have not gone through the Cx process in a very long time. In the RCx process, Commissioning Agents will work to discover how your existing systems and equipment have changed operation or how they have lost efficiencies over time. Whether your facility had issues that were never corrected properly during design and construction or it has experienced significant “drift” (unintended deviation from the building design intent or performance) over the years, the RCx process seeks to optimize your equipment and systems as a whole.
