Facility Intelligence Internship (2026)

The ideal internship candidate will be enthusiastic, teachable, and willing to collaborate.
Facility Intelligence Intern:
- Join a tight-knit team and be mentored by department
- Contribute ideas and support to the service team
- Opportunities to lead and complete development and project tasks based on capabilities
- Will gain experience in:
- Building systems and how they operate
- Building Automation Systems (BAS) and networking
- Software programming, dashboard visualizations, and building data analytics
Qualifications:
- In pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVACR, Architectural Engineering Major (specializing in Mechanical Building Systems), or Computer Science
- Excellent analytical skills
- Ability to adapt to various tasks assigned with the goal of expanding Mechanical/Architectural Engineering skills
- Able to take direction and work in teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Desire to learn and apply new skills
Work Environment & Requirements:
- Average 40-hour workweek
- Greater Grand Rapids or Detroit Area, or ability to relocate
- Hybrid Work Environment
- Traditional office setting, 2 days per week (9am-5pm)
- Virtual/Remote office setting, 3 days per week
- Potential to continue the internship remotely with reduced hours during the school year

We’ve outlined below our OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) of your role within Synergy.
Within 1 Month: Onboarding & Foundational Learning – Understand Synergy’s operations Objective: High Level Understanding of Facility Intelligence
- KR: Complete onboarding and become familiar with Synergy’s FI (Facility Intelligence) processes, workflows, and team culture.
- KR: Shadow team members across different CIP (Capital Investment Plan) and SONICx (Synergy’s Ongoing Intelligent Commissioning) projects to understand how Synergy delivers value to clients.
- KR: Attend at least two CIP and/or SONICx project meetings to observe team dynamics and identify areas where you can assist.
- KR: Attend multiple meetings with the development team to familiarize yourself with SkySpark.
Within 2 Months: Skill Application & Independent Contribution Objective: Participate in FI Services
- KR: Gain understanding of the Origin software and its purpose through training sessions with a team member.
- KR: Attend client CIP MS (Managed Services) meeting.
- KR: Assist in data review in SONICx and in Origin. Provide insights.
- KR: Assist in programming development in SkySpark.
- KR: Work with senior engineers to set up connections between SkySpark and clients IT networks through site-to-site VPNs or other connection strategies.
Within 3 Months: Advanced Involvement & Knowledge Demonstration Objective: Apply the Learned Skills
- KR: Lead a small development project and/or provide reporting for client reports.
- KR: Advance in learning of CIP and SONICx.
- KR: Present a summary of your contributions and learnings to your supervisor and team.
- KR: Collaborate with your supervisor to outline a personal development plan for future career steps—whether at Synergy or beyond.
- KR: Share feedback on the internship experience to help improve future intern programs.

$18-20/hr
