When Hans Nelson founded Synergy Consulting Engineers in 2005, client service was his number one passion. His mission was to build a team and a company that would design with focused purpose, achieve superior building systems operation, and collaborate effectively to deliver exceptional facility performance on every project. A Registered Engineer in multiple states, Hans holds NCEES certification and as Principal in Charge, he is directly involved in design reviews, team mentoring and field activities, including team direction as needed to meet client objectives. He brings exceptional leadership to the commissioning team through his hands-on involvement and an expertise developed over 18 years of continuous experience in Healthcare and critical environments, including major infrastructure (boiler and chiller plants) HVAC systems, plumbing, fire protection systems, life safety systems, laboratory design, and building automation systems.
Hans believes what makes the Synergy team unique is their shared interest in getting to know clients, each other, and everyone’s families. “I’m very family-focused and creating a fun, upbeat culture and positive, strong relationships is important to me,” Hans says. “We’re experienced engineers at the top of our game who also take the time to enjoy our families, community, church and the great outdoors. That’s very gratifying.” A father of four, Hans enjoys field test training his Labrador retrievers, hunting duck, grouse and pheasant, and taking part in Synergy’s fantasy football league and annual fall family get together with pumpkin carving, games and an evening bonfire.

Professional Experience
While earning his architectural engineering degree at Milwaukee School of Engineering in the 1990s, Hans held a contractor’s license and worked in construction management for a firm with eight offices around the country. In 1999, he became a partner in an architectural engineering firm, leaving to pursue his vision of a relationship focused, complete solutions company that merges commissioning work and hands-on field testing with design/build architectural engineering. This became Synergy.
