Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer

Location

This position will be centralized out of the Belmont, MI or Royal Oak, MI offices of Synergy.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the Senior Mechanical Commissioning Engineer is to provide commissioning and engineering support to all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.,) while completing discipline specific commissioning or testing tasks for projects. He/She will be required to develop system specific installation and operation checklists, inspection reports, and testing protocols. The Senior Mech FPTE should also be proficient in completing specific system level design reviews, co-leading Cx meetings, and authoring reports for projects. Completion of Quality Assurance Validation of all work products required under contract obligations will also be required. The Senior FPTE will provide support to the FPCE as required to meet contract requirements. In addition, the ideal candidate will assist in the development, implementation and improvement to internal processes and protocols that will improve commissioning services efficiency and effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management & Administration

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures, procedures, and regulations;
  • Maintains project electronic files on file server;
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal, state and local regulations;
  • Execute all duties and responsibilities with professionalism; clear communication (written and verbal) skills, accountability;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Cx plan;
  • Develop system specific installation and operation checklists, inspection reports, and testing protocols; conferring with CxA;
  • Reviews Cx schedule with FPCE by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing testing information and trends;
  • Completion of specific system level design reviews;
  • Co-lead Cx meetings, maintain detailed meeting minutes reports;
  • Promotes and maintains professional collaboration with project team, including all engineering disciplines, equipment vendors, architects, contractors, construction manager and project client/owner;
  • Completion of RFI’s;
  • Ensure adequate review and submission of project deliverables in conjunction with Cx schedule milestones;
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Project Execution

  • Displays proficiency in system design reviews and testing services, including but not limited to: air systems, hydronic systems, HVAC equipment and controls, plumbing equipment and controls, electrical equipment and controls, and life safety systems;
  • Interpretation of technical specifications, equipment cutsheets & catalog data;
  • Utilization of Trace 700 economic analysis software;
  • Prepare Field Energy Audit inspections;

Client Management

  • Prepares project progress reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing testing information and trends;
  • Confirms work product (client deliverables) standards compliance by conducting quality control protocols;

Continuing Education & Professional Development

  • Maintains a solid understanding of the main principles of MEP engineering and construction;
  • Acquire and Maintain a current LEED NC Proficiency certification;
  • Acquire and Maintain a commissioning professional certification;

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Experienced Commissioning Technician or
  • HVAC Equipment Service Technician or
  • Building Automation System Technician or
  • Testing, Adjusting, & Balancing (TAB) Technician
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process ASHRAE Guidelines 0, 1, & 2
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel;
  • Requires strong analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of MEP engineering, and construction;
  • In depth technical understanding of HVAC Systems; and Plumbing Systems, including proficiency in authoring HVAC and Plumbing system condition assessment reports; and
  • Must be able to travel anywhere in the United States typically not more than one week per month outside Michigan.

Preferred

  • Professional Certification;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology;
  • Proficient in Energy Modeling Software (Trace Load 700 & DOE2);
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process per FGI, http://www.fgiguidelines.org/
  • Proficient in the application of mechanical and plumbing building codes, NFPA 90, 99, 101, & Michigan Minimum Healthcare Design Standards;
  • 5 years experience in HVAC & Plumbing Systems Engineering, including schematic design, design development, construction specification editing, and construction administration;

Other considerations

  • Proficient in Building Modeling Software (Rivet and Navisworks);
  • 2 years (minimum) utilizing Revit MEP to produce construction drawings;

Working Conditions:

This position is a 45 hour work week. This position will be in a typical office setting most of the time and monthly on job sites as the project requires.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting for long periods of time working on a computer;
  • Standing or Walking for long periods of time at Project Sites/Facilites.
  • Continual use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, hearing, talking, walking; and
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25lbs.
