Facility Systems Performance Engineer

Location

This position is located in Michigan.

Position Purpose

The main purpose of the MEP Systems Performance Engineer to provide engineering support to all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.) while completing discipline-specific testing tasks for projects.  The candidate will be required to travel to multiple locations throughout the United States to perform Facility Condition Assessments (FCAs). In addition to FCAs, the candidate will be required to develop system-specific installation and operation checklists, inspection reports, and testing protocols. The MEP Systems Performance Engineer should also be proficient in completing specific system-level design reviews, co-leading meetings, and authoring reports for projects.  Completion of Quality Assurance Validation of all work products required under contract obligations will also be required.  The MEP Systems Performance Engineer will provide support to the Facility Performance Engineering (FPE) group as required to meet contract requirements.  In addition, the ideal candidate will assist in the development, implementation, and improvement to internal processes and protocols that will improve commissioning services efficiencies and effectiveness.

Project Management & Administration

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures, procedures, and regulations;
  • Maintains all electronic files to Synergy’s cloud file server;
  • Ensures company compliance by abiding by federal, state and local regulations;
  • Execute all duties and responsibilities with professionalism, clear communication (written and verbal) skills, and accountability;
  • Promotes and maintains professional collaboration with the project team, including all engineering disciplines, equipment vendors, architects, contractors, construction manager, and project client/owner;
  • Ability to work on and support multiple inter-company initiative teams (process improvement & company standards) and client’s project teams simultaneously while monitoring/managing personal and Synergy Key Performance Indicators;
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently engage in productive Inter-Company Team Meetings not related to projects;
  • Assists to establish and improve departmental processes, procedures, policies, and guidelines;
  • Participates in Engineering Department meetings and attends other meetings as necessary to support the planning and operational needs of the firm;
  • Assists with the company-wide committees including the wellness, training, environmental health and safety, activity, and culture and communications committees.

Project Execution

  • Interpretation of technical specifications, equipment cut sheets, and catalog data;
  • Proficiency in technical report writing including oversight of project teams in the development of the deliverable;
  • Demonstrates the ability to lead and/or support meetings with owners, design engineers and construction teams;
  • Performs field observations on equipment start-ups using I Pad application;
  • Performs functional testing on primary and secondary equipment;
  • Performs system-level functional testing;
  • Authors checklists;
  • Authors functional test scripts.

Client Management

  • Confirms work product (client deliverables) standards compliance by conducting quality control assessment protocols of the PMs under their management based on the submission of OPRs, project Cx reports, etc.;
  • Represents Synergy in a professional manner in all written and verbal communications with the client, as well as performing in a manner that aligns with the company’s vision and culture;
  • Shows ability to maintain regular, proactive and timely and direct communication with the client(s) as it relates to project expectations, status, and issue resolution;
  • Promotes the participation of clients in Synergy Events;
  • Promotes the recognition of client’s projects and goals through Synergy or Industry Organizations Social Media Vehicles and Events.

Continuing Education & Professional Development

  • Contributes industry-leading ideas, principles, and technology to the Synergy Engineering Department;
  • Provide training to the team on various topics post Continuing Education;
  • Maintaining membership in a professional organization (i.e. AEE, ASHRAE, student ASHRAE, BCA).

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Experienced Commissioning Technician or;
  • HVAC Equipment Service Technician or;
  • Building Automation System Technician or;
  • Testing, Adjusting, & Balancing (TAB) Technician;
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process ASHRAE Guidelines 0, 1, & 2;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel;
  • Requires strong analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of MEP engineering, and construction;
  • In-depth technical understanding of HVAC Systems; and Plumbing Systems, including proficiency in authoring HVAC and Plumbing system condition assessment reports;
  • Must be able to travel anywhere in the United States typically three to four weeks per month outside Michigan.

Preferred

  • Commissioning Professional Certification;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology;
  • Proficient in Energy Modeling Software (Trace Load 700 & DOE2);
  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process per FGI, http://www.fgiguidelines.org/
  • Proficient in the application of mechanical and plumbing building codes, NFPA 90, 99, 101, & Michigan Minimum Healthcare Design Standards;
  • 5 years of experience in HVAC & Plumbing Systems Engineering, including schematic design, design development, construction specification editing, and construction administration.

Other considerations

  • Proficient in Building Modeling Software (Rivet and Navisworks);
  • 2 years (minimum) utilizing Revit MEP to produce construction drawings.
