Electrical Facility Performance Testing Engineer


This position will be working from the Belmont, MI or Royal Oak, MI offices.

Position Purpose:

The Electrical Facility Performance Testing Engineer is a supporting role with intent to be trained to provide commissioning and engineering support to all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, etc.,) while completing discipline specific commissioning or testing tasks for projects.  He/She will be required to develop system-specific installation and operation checklists, inspection reports, and testing protocols with direction from the FPCE and Senior FPTE.  The FPTE will provide support to the FPCE as required to meet contract requirements.  In addition, the ideal candidate will assist in the development, implementation, and improvement to internal processes and protocols that will improve commissioning services efficiencies and effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Management & Administration

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures, procedures, and regulations
  • Maintains project electronic files on the file server
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal, state and local regulations
  • Execute all duties and responsibilities with professionalism; clear communication (written and verbal) skills, accountability
  • Learn company work processes to aid in the development and implementation of the Cx plan
  • Basic knowledge of system specific installation and operation checklists, inspection reports, and testing protocols; conferring with FPCE
  • Assist in the review of Cx activities project schedule & issue tracking with Senior FPTE and FPCE by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing building systems field reports & testing data
  • Promotes and maintains professional collaboration with the project team, including all engineering disciplines, equipment vendors, architects, contractors, construction manager and project client/owner
  • Ensure adequate review and submission of project deliverables in conjunction with Cx schedule milestones
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Project Execution

  • Displays proficiency in system design reviews and testing services, including but not limited to; electrical power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and nurse call systems.
  • Ability to be adept with various tasks assigned with the goal of expanding Cx knowledge
  • Interpretation of HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Construction Drawings.
  • Interpretation of technical specifications, equipment cut sheets & catalog data
  • Utilization of Trace 700 economic analysis software (energy modeling)
  • Prepare Field Energy Audit inspections

Client Management

  • Prepares project progress reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing testing information and trends
  • Confirms work product (client deliverables) standards compliance by conducting quality control protocols

Continuing Education & Professional Development

  • Maintains a solid understanding of the main principles of MEP engineering and construction
  • Acquire and Maintain a current LEED NC Proficiency certification
  • Acquire and Maintain a commissioning professional certification



  • Proficient in the Commissioning Process ASHRAE Guidelines 0, 1, & 2
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Proficient in utilizing mobile devices in the field to collect and analyze building systems verification checklists and testing data.
  • Proficient in the interpretation of construction drawings, technical specifications, submittals, and equipment data sheets as it relates to HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Systems.
  • Requires strong analytical and mathematical skills, quick thinking, and a solid understanding of the main principles of engineering, construction, and architecture
  • In-depth, technical understanding of Electrical Power Distribution Systems; and Lighting Systems and Fire Alarm Systems, including proficiency in authoring Electrical Power, Lighting, and Fire Alarm system assessment reports
  • Must be able to travel anywhere in the United States typically not more than one week per month outside Michigan.


  • Journeyman Electrician
  • Electrical Systems Service Technician
  • Information Technology Systems Technician Certification
  • Building Automation System Technician
  • Commissioning Professional Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Experience in Energy Modeling Software (Trace Load 700 & DOE2)
  • Understanding in the Commissioning Process per FGI,
  • Understanding the application of mechanical and plumbing building codes, NFPA, & Healthcare Design Standards & Guidelines (AIA, FGI)
  • 2 years’ experience in Electrical Power & Lighting Systems Engineering, including schematic design, design development, construction specification editing, and construction administration

Other considerations

  • Proficient in Building Modeling Software (Rivet and Navisworks)
  • 2 years (minimum) utilizing Revit MEP to produce construction drawings
